Today I noticed that someone actually posted a comment on my blog. However, there are several problems with the comment that make me want to discount it as an actual contribution to my bloggitude.

The comment was very long. It was a reasonably well-written (grammatically) MoveOn.org talking points tirade. This makes me think that the poster just got my URL from someplace that identifies me as a Conservative without having had to read my blog. I also think this tirade must have been posted to other blogs on that list.

The clincher is that the comment was posted to my Dilbert Blog post and NOT to any political post that would have been more relevant.

Oh well, the waiting continues...

I may be way behind the curve on this one, but I just got my copy of the DNRC Newsletter #61. Scott Adams, the cartoonist behind the Dilbert strip, has started his own blog. In the spirit of recent helpful how-tos, here is Scott on blogging:

When I see news stories about people all over the world who are experiencing hardships, I worry about them, and I rack my brain wondering how I can make a difference. So I decided to start my own blog. That way I won't have time to think about other people.

People who are trying to decide whether to create a blog or not go through a thought process much like this:

The world sure needs more of ME.
Maybe I'll shout more often so that people nearby can experience the joy of knowing my thoughts.
No, wait, shouting looks too crazy.
I know - I'll write down my daily thoughts and badger people to read them.
If only there was a description for this process that doesn't involve the words egomaniac or unnecessary.

The blogger's philosophy goes something like this:
Everything that I think about is more fascinating than the crap in your head.
The beauty of blogging, as compared to writing a book, is that no editor will be interfering with my random spelling and grammar, my complete disregard for the facts, and my wandering sentences that seem to go on and on and never end so that you feel like you need to take a breath and clear your head before you can even consider making it to the end of the sentence that probably didn't need to be written anyhoo.

I am not an elite, even though I do sometimes blog in my pajamas. I was very disappointed that the President threw off the veil of conservatism that he had been wearing for the last six years, pretending to be more in touch with the mainstream of American Conservatism than his father was. I'm still glad that he's prosecuting the GWOT. But I am STILL unhappy with his attitude on illegal immigration, his public lack of perception of the threat from Islam, and his reluctance to stand up to the liberals. He'd rather stand up to the conservatives and call us all elite snobs who don't trust Harriet Miers to be a good conservative. I am not an elite, I am not a snob, I cannot hold a candle to Harriet Miers when it comes to the law. But I know an opportunity missed/botched/squandered/lost when I see one. I oppose the Miers nomination. I sincerely hope she withdraws. I sincerely hope that the Senate doesn't have to reject her, for the further damage that would do to the President. But if she doesn't withdraw, I sincerely hope the Senate does reject her, so that Mr. Bush will have a second chance to fulfill his promise.

Don't call it Islamofascism

Dafydd ab Hugh has only had his own blog up and running since yesterday, and already I have learned something valuable. As Rush Limbaugh always says, "Words mean things." The word that Dafydd refuses to use is "islamofascism." The whole article, the whole blog in fact, is worth reading, but my favorite part is this:

The word "Islamofascist" is just an example of using Nazi or fascist as an all-purpose intensifier to mean anything bad. It cheapens the historicity of the real fascists. What's next, discussing the Communofascism of North Korea?

But the more important point is that the word "fascism" has a magical power: it overwhelms every other word you connect it to. In the real world, "Islamofascism" transsubstantiates into (islamo)-FASCISM! Kaboom!

The danger we face is Islamism and the willingness to murder hundreds of thousands in the name of jihad. What matters is the religion itself and the militancy by which it's spread -- not some putative connection to Mussolini or Hitler. To understand the jihadi, we need to confront the true source of the danger: the death cult that animates the slayer-of-thousands.

What we don't need is to hide it behind the big, black shadow of a different boogieman, and one that -- unlike Islamism -- doesn't even exist in any signficance anymore. Rather than intensifying our perception of what actually assails us, tacking that silly predicate on the end actually diminishes the intensity, fuzzing up the picture. If we lose focus and forget the real danger, as 9/11 recedes into the past, we will be tempted to just shrug it off and go back to the Clintonian "situation normal, all f---ed up" response.

First a trip to Houston at the end of July followed by three weeks in Ireland and I have not been feeling much like posting. However, I just saw something on LGF that I have to say, defines the liberals and I hope to God that this sentiment remains their face to the world at each and every election, because there's no way they get elected to dog-catcher with this disgusting attitude.

I'm grateful to God that all I have to worry about is $3/gallon gasoline when there are so many fellow Americans suffering and in need. I will be making a donation soon. Almost every right of center blog I have seen has links to various relief agencies. If there are any liberals aiding the effort, I don't know of them.

Debra Saunders of the San Francisco Chronicle writes what appears to be a commentary favorable to the United States and its allies in the War on Terror, titled Blame Blair or Bush, not the Bombers.

But she fires off a sneak attack on the Pro-Life movement with this paragraph:

Imagine, as I've written before, if anti-abortion terrorists began killing innocent civilians and said they would stop only if the government outlaws abortion. (After all, if terrorism wins for Islamic extremists, why shouldn't U.S. extremists adopt it?) The Left would not fault pro-abortion policies. The Left would not blame the government for legalizing abortion. The Left -- correctly -- would denounce the terrorists, the violence and any attempt to extort policy by threatening innocent lives.

Reasonable on it's face, but - Hey wait a minute! Why does being anti-abortion make me an extremist? I don't know whether to be completely outraged or bemused by the fact that there seems to be some actual cross-over going on now with Liberals who support the War.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a great book. I read it in four days and I refuse to say anything that would give it away. However, there is one passage that describes the Bush Doctrine in words that any child can understand. And I quote:

Proving there is no middle ground

And here I thought it was conservatives who had the biggest beef against Justice O'Connor. I have to admit, when I first heard that it was she who was retiring and not Chief Justice Rehnquist, my heart soared. We are only going to be treading water when a true conservative retires during a conservative presidency. But the chance for President Bush to nominate a conservative to replace a moderate is wonderful.

Meanwhile, over at the Daily Kos, we see proof positive that Rush is right about moderates. With "Four Down and One To Go", the ultra left demonstrates they hate moderates more than conservatives do. To be sure, Sandra Day-O'Connor's mortal sin, in the eyes of the left, was her vote to end manual recounting of ballots in Florida back in 2000. Somehow, though, I think they would have found another reason to vilify her, had it not been for Bush vs. Gore. Be sure to read the comments, for they are hysterical, in more ways than one.

Wesley Pruden at the Washington Times has uncovered a vast left-wing conspiracy in his opinion piece The master plan for party suicide. He's talking about Senator Dick Durbin's foaming at the mouth this past week, equating the treatment of detainees at Guantanamo with the treatment of prisoners in Nazi death camps, Stalin's gulag and Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge nightmare in Cambodia. That's right, the torture and murder of millions upon millions by evil psychopaths is the same as keeping detainees awake by blasting hip-hop music at them.

Powerline has the text of a letter Newt Gingrich sent to each member of the Senate, calling for censure of Senator Turban. John Hinderaker's assessment at the end of the post is noteworthy:

Gingrich puts the case very well, I think. The argument is a compelling one: if the Senate censures Durbin, it will largely undo the damage that he has done by demonstrating to the terrorists and their allies that Durbin's misguided attack on the U.S. military was an aberration. Moreover, the American people deserve to know who, if anyone, agrees with Durbin's slander of our armed forces, so that when those Senators run for re-election, they can be defeated. Senators should not be able to hide behind a discreet "no comment," as Hillary Clinton has done. This is not a time for our elected officials to be neutral as between the terrorists and the armed forces of the United States.

The Left has managed to put President Bush's words, "Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists", in a pejorative light. But it really is time to draw the line. We ARE at war with an ideology, Islamism, that will not stop until we are dead, enslaved, or forcibly converted. Those who stand in the way of defeating this ideology are not the friends of freedom and they are not the friends of the American people.

The Bush-haters and the America-haters remind me of that scene in half of all science fiction movies ever produced where aliens invade Earth with malevolent intent: They shout, "Welcome to Earth!" right before they are incinerated by a laser beam. The Left cannot envision the consequences of defeat because they refuse to acknowledge the need for the struggle in the first place. To borrow and paraphrase a well known saying, they will be the first against the wall if the mullahs take over, because the defenders of freedom will all be dead, having fought to the last man, woman, and child to protect the sorry backsides of their craven neighbors.

Inaugural Post

OK, I have had enough. I am tired of reading and hearing all these ignorant fools trashing my country, my party, my President, my sexual orientation, My Religion. And, somehow, I am expected to tolerate, no, adopt their opinions without so much as an, "Excuse me, what the heck are you talking about?"

So I started this blog. Here, I get to vent my indignation and to shine some much-needed light on the inner thoughts of mainstream America.

So what pushed me over the edge? One too many stories about Koran desecration and the calls for apologies for things that didn't happen. (saw it on LGF).

Just so you know what side of the road I walk on, let me just say this about the desecration of "Holy Books". I am a devoutly religious and spiritual person. But it's just a book. It is not God (Who can take care of Himself without any help from us, btw).

I had to stand by and fume in silence when someone dunked a crucifix in urine and called it art. (Thanks again, LGF, for the link.) I didn't run out and riot and kill innocent people. I didn't call for the violent deaths of the artist, the directors of the National Endowment for the Arts, or anyone else.

As for the so-called Religion of Peace: Any body of religious thought or political thesis that allows its adherents to murder, rape, enslave, subjugate and exact tribute from non-believers is EVIL and must be eradicated. Barely civilized men of nominally Christian faith did this about 800 years ago. Barely civilized men of Muslim faith are doing this now. The difference is that there is nowhere in the Gospels of the New Testament that codify or sanction this behavior. The same cannot be said of the Koran.

So here's the deal. I live in the United States of America, where dunking the image of Christ on the Cross in urine is protected speech. Therefore, the way I see it, if I want to defecate on the Koran, wrap it in Hustler magazine, dowse it with KC Masterpiece and slowly roast it to ashes, that is also protected speech. And I'm not going to apologize for saying it.
